Traveler's Restorative Therapy

Gua sha (meaning: to scrape sand) is part of the traditional Chinese healing method used for thousands of years to address ailments such as chronic pain and the common cold.
 
Practitioners use a smooth-edged tool to apply pressure directly to the skin using quick strokes to a specific area of the body to increase blood flow (Qi or “life force”), which can become obstructed. Blood stasis / stagnation can limit mobility, elevate toxins and pain in the body. Increased blood flow alleviates pain, increases mobility, and returns the body to homeostasis and a sense of well-being.
 
Clients are minimally dressed and appropriately covered with a sheet. An oil or liniment is minimally applied to the skin. As blood stasis is released, a small amount of bruising or petechiae appearing on the surface of the skin (from released blood stagnation) is common and will disappear over the course of a few days. Self-care after the treatment includes extra water intake to flush toxins, keeping the area covered for at least 72-hours, and balanced nutrition to receive the full benefits.
 
This treatment is contraindicated for seniors, clients with blood disorders (Hemophilia), and those taking certain medications such as blood thinners. As with all massage and bodywork, a thorough intake is required.

Gua Sha

Swedish Massage, also known as Circulatory Massage, is the most common stand-alone modality which can also be combined with other modalities. Oil or lotion is applied to the skin to facilitate movement of the circulatory system and to manipulate tissue and muscle fibers. Benefits include increased circulation, increased nerve and cell function, nervous system relaxation, improved skin tone, overall revitalization and in some cases may reduce edema.

Deep Tissue Massage uses friction techniques to release tension and break up adhesions in the belly of muscles and muscle groups. The goal is to change chronic patterns of tension throughout the body, allowing more freedom of movement and the reduction of accumulated pain patterns.

Sports Massage targets areas of the body that become strained due to repetitive and strenuous movements. Trigger point and cross-fiber techniques, stretching and the application of lotion may all be used as part of an effective treatment protocol plan. These approaches assist in the reduction of injury and muscle-bound adhesions, maximized performance and in post-athletic recovery.

Sports Massage

This unique modality uses gentle, rhythmic undulations that mimic the fluidity of the ocean and return the body to an awareness of full mobility. Increased sensory awareness and circulation, and a sense of deep relaxation are just a few of the benefits of this technique. Clients remain clothed or draped for the duration of their session.

Sensory Repatterning

Structural Integration, developed by Dr. Ida Rolf (also called Rolfing), is a unique deep-tissue method of reorganizing the fascia (connective tissue) of the body. Typically, this approach is practiced in a series of 10 sessions across a specified period, usually 10 weeks. Your sessions will be designed by your practitioner to address your somatic needs via a movement assessment and thorough intake. Clients are asked to wear minimal clothing during these sessions such as shorts and a sports bra. The series is collaborative (client / practitioner) and designed in a sequence towards achieving expansional balance throughout the entire body. It corrects misalignment in the fascia (patterns adapted over time due to injury or surgical procedures), reorganizes the physical structure of the body and can assist in emotional release, clarification of consciousness, a more advanced sensory awareness, increased range-of-motion, ease of movement and overall physical healing of the body. Follow-up sessions may be beneficial and can be used to maintain wellness after the 10-session series is complete.

Structural Integration

Jin Shin Acutouch, meaning “Compassionate Spirit penetrating through touch” is a method birthed by Barbara Clark (IPSB) who regained her health from a chronic medical condition. Traditional treatment options for her were limited and she turned to Eastern medicine. This approach beautifully combines the ancient arts of Jin Shin Jyutsu, Five Element Theory, Taoist Yoga, Qi Gong, the principles of Tai Chi Chuan, and Breath Work.
 
A standard treatment protocol using Jin Shin Acutouch includes light touch and the holding of 26 major Qi energy vortices of the body at differing times. Qi begins to flow in its proper pattern and strengthens the organs and body. This connection from one flow point to another is similar to that of jumper cables – making connections where there isn’t one to re-establish power. Jin Shin Acutouch can be used as a treatment to address acute or chronic health condition, injuries or as a preventative measure to maintain health, energy and emotional well-being. Clients remain fully clothed and resting on their back with proper support for the entirety of their session. Sessions are typically 90- minutes, however, if this duration is uncomfortable for the client, a 60-minute session can also be very effective.
